AL GORE AND THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY

Although he has not declared his candidacy, a CBS poll conducted in October 2007 indicates that were he to enter the race, Al Gore could be a serious contender. Near the end of the telephone questionnaire, Gore’s name was added to a short list of candidates vying for the nomination.

Al Gore came in second among Democratic primary voters at 32% – just five points behind Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama trailed behind them in third place with 16% percent.

…Like so many other Americans, I wish former Vice President Al Gore would declare his candidacy and let the chips fall where they may. But, for now, Gore has not shown any indication that he’s preparing to reenter a political arena so desperately hungering for….

Gore Wins the Norwegian Primary

October 23, 2007 by mass4gore

Having now won the Norwegian Primary, it is reasonable to ask why Al Gore would want to slog his way through the snows of New Hampshire.

But the inconvenient truth is that never has the man who might yet be president needed to more seriously consider his personal legacy–not to mention the small matter of his potential to make the world anew–

Al Gore’s Golden Opportunity

October 23, 2007 by mass4gore

Gore has explicitly denied interest in running for president again, and that may be true. However, he has not absolutely ruled out a 2008 White House bid, and he has refrained from asking active boosters to shut up shop.

Website bid to draft Gore to run for US presidency

October 18, 2007 by mass4gore

MORE than 200,000 people have signed an online petition pleading with Al Gore to run for the White House.

The website draftgore.com is as professional as any designed for an official candidate, but those behind this grassroots initiative insist they have no contact with Gore.

With a Nobel Peace Prize tucked under his arm, Gore has successfully made the transition from frustrated former Vice President to international statesman. He continues to insist he has no plans to run, but this is often seen as a coy way of feeding speculation that he could be persuaded to clamber into a campaign plane once again.

Nobel May Draw Gore Into Presidential Race

October 12, 2007 by mass4gore

Phone: 617-710-7512

“The Nobel Prize that Al Gore has been awarded could help draw him into the 2008 U.S. Presidential race,” says Draft Gore Massachusetts Chair Fred Koed.

Koed made his assessment after former Vice President Gore was declared a co-winner today of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to warn the world about the dangers of global warming.

Draft Gore Massachusetts, an independent statewide grassroots organization, is circulating nominating petitions throughout Massachusetts to place Gore’s name on the state Democratic Presidential Primary ballot. Similar Draft Gore groups are operating in California, Michigan, New Hampshire and other states.

Koed, a member of the Massachusetts State Democratic Committee, says the award of the Nobel Prize “vividly demonstrates the international acclaim Gore’s environmental initiatives have earned and the stature he has achieved worldwide. Add to this the courage he showed in his early opposition to going to war in Iraq and you begin to understand why thousands of citizens are working as volunteers throughout the nation to bring him into the race. The Nobel may tip the balance.”

Massachusetts, Koed says, is seeking additional volunteers to help gather the 2,500 valid signatures required on the nominating petitions, which must also be approved by Gore. “We expect to exceed that total,” Koed adds, “but it’s essential we go as far above it as we can to convince Al Gore that he should formally enter the presidential campaign. The urgency of securing more signatures is why an increase in volunteers is crucial.” To date, Gore has not made public his final decision on whether he will seek the presidency again.

Lynn Rogers of Worcester, who is coordinating the petition drive in Central Massachusetts, says: “It’s important to realize that it would be too late for almost anyone else to enter the race now, but not for Gore. In all the petition campaigns and in the comments sent by more than 170,000 people so far to the national draftgore.com website, a prevailing theme is ‘If he runs, I’ll vote for him.’ That message is coming from Republicans, from those planning to vote for Sen. Clinton because there is no Gore alternative at this time, and from younger adults who don’t ordinarily vote.”

For more information on volunteering in Massachusetts, Koed asks those interested to call 508-713-2720 or to consult the organizational website at www.Mass4Gore.com.
